I hope the rest of your trip goes well. Nothing scarier than car problems on a road trip! One time, my family had to buy a new car in Oregon on a car trip! Several times we were stranded in the Nevada desert for what seemed like hours. No fun!
One time drivng from here to Utah, we had to get several things fixed on our car in different towns; it was ridiculous!
We just got our air conditioner fixed this week, which went out when we were in the badlands with Kiera's family last month. No way would I drive down to Utah with no air! Hope you have a great time on the coast!tearesehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10362666264858845959noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-14705332.post-21252298914980314982016-05-28T16:50:20.355-06:002016-05-28T16:50:20.355-06:00Hope everything is okay now! It always screws up nap time. None of my kids have ever done well at "quiet time" and I'm jealous of those who do! One of mine stopped naping at 2 1/2, pretty much because he was out of the crib, and others it was really hard to get them to keep doing it once they could get out. With Eli, he's the only one who could get out of his crib on his own,so it was pointless to keep him there anyway. I never know how to help people and am really bad at most things people associate with it like cooking..or even visiting, which is extremely stressful for me. When I was RS president I felt stressed just thinking about it, and more stressed because I lived so far away from our small congregation that I felt I couldn't properly help anyway if there was a problem. On top of that, I felt like the number one thing they wanted me to do as President here was to plan our ward parties, and I REALLY can't do that well, as I never have them myself and hate big gatherings.
I think the most stressful feeling in the world is feeling like you let someone down, slightly after the feeling that people are talking about how you let people down. Ugh.
Honestly, I had to ask to be released after two years, and I know for a fact I couldn't handle it at all in a big ward like yours probably is. So, I totally think you're doing great, compared to me for sure.
tearesehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10362666264858845959noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-14705332.post-59297722891849493052016-03-16T11:42:18.243-06:002016-03-16T11:42:18.243-06:00poor kid! Last time they hall had a stomach bug, River didn't get it, and it's been years since I had a baby throw up that wasn't big enough to run to the bathroom. Yuck! Of course, I had a bigger kid that just slept in it too...double yuck. Luckily his brother came and told me he'd heard him throw up so I could come take care of it. I can see there definitely ARE some major differences between the needs of those in a singles ward and family ward - at least needs that the RS can meet (I guess what I mean is, people in a singles ward might turn to their families when in need, while those in a family ward are the families).

When I had Benjamin, I appreciated the meals and attention, but then I strained my back and REALLY appreciated the meals and attention.

You know what I value? Visiting Teaching that works correctly.

One time my friend Katy, not in my ward, randomly called me during those difficult days to see if she could come over and help me with anything, like doing my dishes, watching Daniel, or just hanging out. I took her up on the offer and felt GREAT relief that I didn't even need to ask, because I don't do that very well - no one does. Katy offered several times during the following months. Randomly. Sometimes I was doing fine and I didn't have her come, or if she came, it was to hang out. Other times I was so grateful she thought of me and my needs, and offered a little of her time. She was a visiting teacher to me!

Without being too negative, allowing for unknown variables in people's lives, etc., I will relate that when my real visiting teachers asked "what can we do for you?" I asked them to randomly call me, when they had a half hour or so free, to see if I may need help (the moments of difficulty would come and go, you see). I asked them to do this, call me when they could help, instead of calling them when I most needed help, because that was the most unlikely time I would call for help.

But, they never called.

I just assumed they never thought about me, but I should be more charitable - there really are times when a person has no free time. But, still....

So, real visiting teaching. That's where it's at. That's the moral of my story.Sarahhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05113251578435731429noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-14705332.post-62468165642167091362016-02-20T17:14:20.093-07:002016-02-20T17:14:20.093-07:00I don't envy your position.

I'm sorry you had to experience that.

I'm sure you're doing a great job! I think you will be a great RS president! It's definitely a calling that is a lot of work. I've been in a RS presidency before. Currently I am the Primary President! I was just called and set apart on Jan 3., so I kinda know how you feel with baptism by fire. We have had a few things that needed to get planned and done in Jan. Sometimes I feel SO crazy busy with work, home, calling etc, it gets to me sometime and I have a little meltdown and start anew. We SO need to get together, with our busy schedules and all!Melissahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07295543406465609676noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-14705332.post-57953047990607807612016-02-18T10:44:34.780-07:002016-02-18T10:44:34.780-07:00Good for you on the FHE! We try to have it now, and we usually do pretty good. Our kids' favorite part is singing songs; every kid gets to pick one and it's really the bulk of our FHE. We have the activity on a separate day so we can fit everything in; I feel bad when we forget to do that part (which is pretty regularly.) Hope you can keep it up! Our go-to lesson is to read something really short from the Friend magazine.
Potty training is crazy!Hope it goes well for you. One of ours was done just after their second birthday; most of them were finished around 2 and a half. Kiera trains her kids when they ask to train, so they're usually three or so. One of ours still has accidents (and its NOT the four year old!) So I guess every kid is different, and you just have to be patient.Good luck!tearesehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10362666264858845959noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-14705332.post-57308088815770606242016-02-18T10:38:28.413-07:002016-02-18T10:38:28.413-07:00My mom told me about that day! Our schools here strangly get cancelled a few times every winter, even though it's SD and they have the equipment for snow. I think its because a lot of people drive in from ranches where the roads aren't plowed; also with few trees the wind can cause dangerous blowing snow when theres a storm. Hope you had a fun day!tearesehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10362666264858845959noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-14705332.post-61894569386080665212016-02-18T10:35:15.153-07:002016-02-18T10:35:15.153-07:00I was the RS pres here for a few years, and I was ...I was the RS pres here for a few years, and I was so freaked out that someone in our ward was going to die! There are several people who are at that point, if you know what I mean. One time I guess someone did ask our church to help with a funeral, but a ward lady in town basically called and told me that she was bringing stuff for our branch, as I lived to far away at the time. I was grateful and slightly annoyed at not being consulted at the same time. Soooo glad I don't have that calling right now. I suck at compassionate service, and we don't have enough members to call someone else to that position. Now I'm the Primary Pres...sooo much better. So each of the kids get to be in charge and lead the meeting, asking people to pick the songs or pray or whatnot. I like it because it helps them to become comfortable being in charge.
