Feeling Mile High

I'm planning on being absent from the blogging world this week. Why, you ask? Well, I'm going on a quasi-vacation! It's "quasi" because I'm not going just for fun and games; it's a work-related trip.

I'm going to Denver! I've never been to the Mile High city, and I'm really looking forward to it. Here are the specs for the trip:
  • I'm going to an audiology convention with my boss and his wife
  • since it's work-related, I get paid for all the days I'm there
  • the nice, expensive hotel is paid for by work
  • I get a daily meal allowance that I probably won't use because...
  • ...our hearing aid sales reps have dinner parties every night and...
  • ...the convention provides lunch for us every day
  • I have to attend two classes (which I'm really looking forward to)
  • I also want to attend about four other classes that will benefit our practice
  • the rest of the time = free time to explore Denver

We leave town Tuesday morning and will get back sometime this weekend (my boss says Sunday, his wife says Saturday). I was assigned to research Denver and make a list of attractions. I really want to go to the botanical gardens and catch the Big Bug exhibit; there's also an aquarium, Molly Brown's house, Mile High Stadium, a few art musuems, and a pottery store where you get to choose and paint your own pottery! I also located a couple parks near our hotel where I hope to be able to spread out a blanket and read for awhile, by myself.

I'm so excited for this trip! I love my boss and his wife, so it will be a lot of fun hanging out with them. I look forward to learning how to do my job better and how to help the practice flourish. I LOVE having a hotel room to myself! And, it will just be nice to get away for a bit.

When I get back, I'll tell you all about my trip. 'Til then, I hope you all have a fabulous week and I'll "see" you when I get back! (I may check in from time to time, just don't count on it.)

This sounds like a very fun business trip. Now I'm jealous.

Hope you have fun!

I recommend the Denver Mint (who doesn't love seeing all that money?) and the Coors Brewery. Both were very interesting and Coors has Coke products if you don't want to sample their wares. Unfortunately, the Mint didn't give away any free samples.

The mint website said you have to have reservations. We don't. Nor will we by this week. So, we probably won't go there. I'd like to go to the Coors Brewery (it's on my list) but I'm not sure how my boss and his wife will feel about it. Thanks for the suggestions, Framed!

When I was last in the Denver area I enjoyed shopping at the 16th Street Mall. We also stopped by the Buffalo Bill grave and museum. And we ate at Casa Bonita, which has a cliff-diving show while you eat.

None of them were mandatory-type tourist activities, but they are something to do if you run out of ideas. Have a good time!

(One of these days we should hang out. I think it's been practically a month since I've seen you.)

I hope you have a great time! I don't have any tips for your trip. I've been through Denver about 3 or 4 times, but never had time to stop and enjoy the city. You can give me some tips for some future day when I'm able to go there and stay a while.

I've never been to Colorado either. O , we might have driven through it on our way home from Nauvoo, but we didn't go to Denver.
I know this is horrible, but as I was reading your post I wondered if Denver's nick-name had any association with the term 'mile high club'. Yeah, I know it doesn't, but I couldn't help but wonder.

Cardine, thanks for the tips. I've missed you!! It has been a long time! We have to get together when I get back. Will work be less crazy for you then? I'll be in touch. :)

Tearese, from what I remember, if I remember it correctly, "Mile High" refers to the city's elevation - a mile high. :)

Congrats!!! Trips are always fun.

I told someone that I wanted to always travel. I said I wanted to live in a lot of places. The response I got from that statement was 'why'. My reply, as always, 'why not?'

Well, it's Tues. which means you've already arrived in Denver so you won't get my 'tips' in time. I look forward to hear all about things when you return. Hope you have a fabulous time.
